This course of lectures examines the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the context of both business and the state. It explores how AI technologies are transforming economic, social, and governance systems, while simultaneously raising ethical, legal, and societal challenges that demand responsible approaches from public and private actors. The course analyzes AI as both a tool for advancing social good—enhancing sustainability, transparency, public services, and inclusive growth—and as a source of new risks, including bias, inequality, privacy violations, environmental impact, and accountability gaps.
Students will study key concepts of CSR and public responsibility, international standards and regulatory frameworks, and the evolving roles of corporations and governments in the responsible design, deployment, and governance of AI systems. Special attention is given to ethical AI principles, human rights, environmental sustainability, stakeholder engagement, and the alignment of AI strategies with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through case studies, policy analysis, and interdisciplinary perspectives, the course equips students with the analytical tools needed to assess AI-driven decisions and to develop responsible AI strategies that balance innovation with social and public interest.
By the end of the course, students will understand how AI reshapes corporate and state responsibility, and will be prepared to critically evaluate and contribute to ethical, sustainable, and socially responsible AI practices in both business and public governance.
